Akins Online, LLC was created and is solely owned and operated by Sharon Akins. It was established in February 2023. Sharon Akins created the business to help liquidate  her father's eclectic personal library and find homes for unwanted books and media that still has value.

 

With the foresight of handling the liquidation process of her father's library for her family once her dad passed, Sharon started the business in 2023 to have a vehicle prepared for just that task when the time came.

 

However, conditioning and valuing books was not yet a skill that Sharon had, and is one that is newly acquired and still in development, her skills mostly lying in the authorship of her own stories.

Little did Sharon expect the actual need for the store to arise or the collection to fall into her hands so soon after the business was started. Nor that it would seem to grow so fast with external inventory sources.

Because of the need for space for her father's library to be stored at her home, and already having so much taken by the inventory for external sources, she felt the pressure and urgency of getting the inventory to move. She felt like she was running in place when it came to listing the items, particularly on topics she knew nothing of, was only listing short, general summaries of how the products were acquired and a  generalized feel of their condition. Something she is currently working on correcting.

 

Despite her preparation in setting up the business, Sharon had to put things on hold when her parents could no longer live alone, and was not prepared for it would last so long, requiring her to take nearly two years from growing the business, including deepening her knowledge base for what she would need to do,  to take care of her parents in her home, dealing with cancer treatments for her father, and Alzheimer's and dementia with her mother, both making it nearly impossible to leave them alone, even for short periods of time, thus the business was on hold.

 

Growing up in a hoarder environment has given Sharon and understanding of how daunting it can be to declutter particularly when dealing with things like books and media. As a result, Sharon offers a service to help people in her area declutter these items as space allows. Much of the Akins Online, LLC inventory comes from simple donation by people who just want the items out of their home, if it is not designated as being from her father's library. Her starting inventory was based on these donations as well as the purchase of a pallet of books and a few smaller purchases.
